Danone Q3 Sales Jump 4% as Strong Pricing Powers Growth; Guidance Confirmed

Danone Q3 sales rose 4.0% on a like-for-like basis to €7.23 billion in the third quarter of 2026, beating analyst expectations as higher prices and strong demand for protein-rich yogurts and medical nutrition offset weak volumes. The French dairy and nutrition group confirmed its full-year guidance on 28 October.
Danone Q3 Sales: The Numbers
Reported Danone Q3 sales rose 5.2% to €7,233 million, up from €6,876 million a year earlier. Like-for-like growth of 4.0% was ahead of the 3.7% consensus in a Bloomberg survey of analysts.
Price contributed 3.6 percentage points of growth, while volume and mix added just 0.4 points. That split shows that Danone Q3 sales growth came overwhelmingly from pricing rather than from selling more products.
Currency movements added 1.5% to reported Danone Q3 sales, helped by stronger Chinese renminbi, Mexican peso and US dollar. Changes in scope reduced sales by 0.5%, reflecting the deconsolidation of Danone's Argentine dairy business into a joint venture with Arcor, partly offset by the addition of meal-replacement brand Huel.
Danone Q3 Sales by Region
- EMEA: sales of €3,215 million, up 3.9% like-for-like. Price rose 4.3% while volume/mix fell 0.4%. Essential dairy and plant-based (EDP) grew strongly in France, Spain and the UK, led by Danone, Alpro, Activia and high-protein brands.
- Americas: sales of €2,372 million, up 4.4%. North America grew 2.4%, and Danone has appointed new leadership for its US business to restore EDP momentum. Specialized Nutrition grew strongly, led by Aptamil, Neocate and Kate Farms.
- Asia Pacific: sales of €1,646 million, up 3.6%. Specialized Nutrition and EDP performed well, with India and Indonesia singled out as dynamic markets, but a poor season for Mizone water weighed on growth.
Danone Q3 Sales by Category
Specialized Nutrition, which includes infant formula and medical nutrition, was the fastest-growing category at 4.7% like-for-like, reaching €2,454 million. EDP, Danone's core dairy and plant-based business, grew 3.6% to €3,409 million. Waters also grew 3.6%, with Volvic and evian performing well.
High protein remained a key growth platform across regions, alongside gut health and medical nutrition. Chief executive Antoine de Saint-Affrique said the quarter showed broad-based momentum and that demand for these health-focused platforms remained strong worldwide.
Guidance and Other Updates
Danone confirmed its 2026 outlook for like-for-like sales growth of 3% to 5%, with recurring operating income growing faster than sales. The company also plans to buy back about 3.5 million shares by the end of 2026 to offset dilution from employee share plans.
Danone announced that Chief Operations Officer Vikram Agarwal will retire in early 2027. Recent corporate moves include a €1.5 billion bond issue in September, the completion of the Huel acquisition, and the creation of its Argentine dairy joint venture with Arcor.
Why Danone Q3 Sales Growth Relies on Pricing
The heavy reliance on price highlights a challenge facing global dairy and food companies. Consumers in Europe and North America remain price-sensitive, and volume growth has been hard to achieve. In Europe, Danone's volume/mix was negative at -1.3%, even as prices rose 3.2%.
Analysts will watch whether Danone can sustain growth if input cost inflation eases and room for further price increases narrows. Its strategy of leaning into protein, gut health and medical nutrition is designed to support premium pricing over the long term.
What It Means for India
The mention of India as a dynamic market in the Danone Q3 sales update in Asia Pacific is notable. The company has refocused its Indian business on specialised nutrition after exiting fresh dairy, and the protein trend driving its global results is also reshaping Indian dairy, where high-protein milk, curd and yogurt launches are multiplying. Our recent report on protein demand across global dairy markets explores this shift.
The key takeaway: Danone Q3 sales beat expectations, but almost all of the growth came from pricing. Protein and medical nutrition are carrying the group while volumes stay flat.
