Yili Retains World’s Most Valuable Dairy Brand Title

Yili has retained its position as the world’s most valuable dairy brand, according to Brand Finance’s Food & Drink Report 2026, with its brand value rising 29% to US$14.5 billion. The Chinese dairy major’s diversified portfolio spans liquid milk, milk powder, yoghurt, ice cream and nutrition products, helping it capture demand for healthier and more functional dairy offerings.

The broader top 10 global dairy brands are now worth US$50.8 billion, highlighting the increasing financial importance of strong dairy brands globally. Danone ranks second at US$8.2 billion, while Mengniu is third after its brand value increased 26% to US$6 billion.

Yili’s growth has been supported by its ability to compete across multiple dairy categories rather than relying on a single product segment. The report specifically highlights its continued investments in adult nutrition and health-oriented products, reinforcing its positioning around changing consumer demand for healthier and functional foods.

European dairy brands also recorded notable gains. Arla registered the fastest brand-value growth among the top 10 dairy brands, with its value increasing 39% to US$3.4 billion. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s Vinamilk remained among the world’s strongest dairy brands, recording a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 89.6/100.

India’s Amul delivered another significant result: although it was not the most valuable dairy brand, it was ranked the world’s strongest dairy brand, achieving a BSI score of 93/100. The ranking underlines the distinction between brand value—the financial value of a brand—and brand strength, which measures factors such as familiarity, trust and influence.

The report points to a broader shift in the food and beverage industry. After two years in which brands relied heavily on price increases to manage inflation and protect margins, competition is increasingly moving toward innovation, health credentials, portfolio expansion and consumer trust. For the global dairy industry, Yili’s performance sends a clear message: scale alone is no longer enough. Diversified portfolios, functional nutrition, health-focused innovation and strong consumer trust are becoming increasingly important drivers of long-term brand value and competitive advantage.
