The man who made the elephant dance : Audiobook of Dr Kurien’s autobiography launched

Dr Verghese Kurien, the father of White Revolution, was remembered by co-operators across the country on his 8th death anniversary with the launching of an audio book titled “The Man Who Made The Elephant Dance” by Kurien’s daughter Nirmala on the occasion.

A webinar organized on the occasion was attended by eminent personalities of dairy industry and associates and around 1000 participants who have been directly or indirectly been associated with Dr Kurien and his institutions.

The Chief Guest of the event was Ms. Nirmala Kurien, the daughter of Kurien. Dilip Rath, Chairman, NDDB, Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands, Rahul Dacunha of Amul topicals fame, among others attended the Webinar. The webinar was presided over by R.S. Sodhi, MD, GCMMF and K.M. Jhala, COO of GCMMF.

Special Guests also included Dr Bruce Scholten, Professor from UK, Siddharth, grandson of Kurien and Atul Bhide, who conceptualized and produced the Audio Book.

Daughter shared childhood memories

Nirmala Kurien shared her childhood memories with her father of how he always believed in equal opportunity for all and excellence in any work that you do. The participants shared their memories and experiences that they had while working with Dr. Kurien.

Sodhi, being from the first batch of Rural Management Graduates from IRMA, recalled how Kurien was like a father figure for the students of IRMA and how he instilled the value of integrity, honesty, punctuality and excellence in one’s field of work in all institutions that he built.

Dilip Rath emphasized how Kurien always kept the benefit of farmers on the forefront and worked on the implementation of Operation Flood as a farmer representative and not as a Government employee.

Besides the event at GCMMF, rest of India was not lagging when it came to paying tributes to the man who changed India.  From NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh to IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi to many other co-operators remembered the Milk Man.

Shamalbhai Patel, Chairman of GCMMF’s tweet was retweeted by Sodhi, “Chairman Shri Shamal bhai Patel paying Tribute to Father of White Revolution Dr V Kurien on his 8 th Death Anniversary, who made India Atma Nirbhar in Milk”.

IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi tweeted, ” My tributes to Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of White Revolution on his death anniversary today. His invaluable contribution to Indian Milk & Dairy industry & ‘’billion-litre idea” with Operation Flood via cooperatives is unforgettable. Added value to Indian farmer’s life”.

Besides, NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav also paid homage to Milk Man of India ” A heartfelt tribute to the father of the ‘White Revolution The Milkman of India on his Death Anniversary”, his message reads.

Punjab MILKFED social media handle wrote, “Verka remembers Dr. Verghese Kurien popularly known as the ‘Father of White Revolution’ for introducing his billion-liter idea and making dairy farming India’s largest self-sustaining industry”.

One of the milk unions of GCMMF, Sumul wrote, “salutes to Dr. Verghese Kurien, Milkman of India on his eighth death anniversary, who spearheaded a dairy revolution in India”.

One of the local cooperators from Maharashtra Surekha D Khot also remembered Kurien by sharing a picture clicked with him.
