The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), a premier institution under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), has announced significant strides in both education and biotechnology. Starting this October, NDRI is launching two new undergraduate courses: BTech in Biotechnology and BTech in Food Technology, each offering 20 seats. Additionally, the institute has expanded its BTech in Dairy Technology program from 40 to 60 seats, with 20 of these seats allocated to its Bengaluru campus.

NDRI is also aligning its programs with the National Education Policy (NEP) and is working on introducing an exit and later entry system along with certificate courses.

On the research front, NDRI has made groundbreaking advancements in animal biotechnology by developing CRISPR gene-edited embryos targeting the β-lactoglobulin (BLG) gene. This research aims to reduce allergenicity in milk, potentially benefiting millions globally who suffer from milk allergies. The institute is also focusing on developing climate-resilient dairy animals to address the challenges posed by heat stress on livestock, showcasing its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the dairy sector.
