Uttarakhand Milk Production Rises 3%

Milk production in Uttarakhand has increased by 3.1%, reaching 1,957.2 thousand tonnes in FY 2025-26, up from 1,897.8 thousand tonnes in FY 2024-25, according to Dairy Development Minister Saurabh Bahuguna. Speaking in the state Assembly while responding to a question from BJP MLA Brij Bhushan Gairola, the minister said the state’s per capita daily milk availability stands at 456 grams, close to the national average of 485 grams.
The state currently produces around 53.6 lakh kg of milk per day, while daily consumption is estimated at 50.3 lakh kg, indicating a modest surplus. Uttarakhand’s dairy sector has shown steady growth over the past decade, with production rising from 1,656 thousand tonnes in 2015-16 to the present level. The state has 2,830 operational milk cooperative societies supporting dairy farmers.
Bahuguna also highlighted government initiatives aimed at boosting production and rural employment, including the Ganga Gay Mahila Dairy scheme, Silage and Milch Animal Nutrition programme, Milk Price Incentive scheme, and the State Livestock Mission. The cooperative dairy brand Aanchal recorded a business turnover of ₹399.5 crore in 2024-25, with revenue projected to reach about ₹444 crore in FY 2025-26. The state government has allocated ₹93 crore for dairy development in the current fiscal, with a proposed increase to ₹140 crore in the next financial year to further strengthen the sector.
