Purabi Dairy Crosses ₹450 Crore Turnover-Tech-Driven Growth
Prefer on

Purabi Dairy, the brand owned by West Assam Milk Producers' Co-operative Union Ltd (WAMUL), has reported an impressive turnover of ₹450 crore for FY 2024-25, marking a significant milestone for Assam's largest dairy cooperative. With steady growth and operational improvements, WAMUL is now gearing up for further expansion, leveraging technology and farmer-centric initiatives.

At present, WAMUL procures milk from over 32,000 dairy farmers spread across 28 districts of Assam. The cooperative handles nearly 1.6 lakh litres of milk daily, supplying pasteurized milk, curd, paneer, ghee, and other dairy products under the Purabi brand. In recent years, Purabi Dairy has diversified into value-added products while modernizing its processing infrastructure.

Looking ahead, WAMUL is actively exploring new business avenues including dairy-based ready-to-drink products and regional specialties. The cooperative is also investing in digital platforms and supply chain technologies to enhance procurement, farmer payments, and inventory management. WAMUL’s success is backed by the support of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Assam’s state government.

With Assam’s dairy sector poised for growth, WAMUL’s performance reinforces the potential of cooperative-led models in strengthening rural livelihoods and ensuring quality dairy supplies in the Northeast.

Industry Insight:
WAMUL’s rise underlines how robust cooperative systems, backed by infrastructure upgrades and digital integration, can drive dairy sector growth in under-served regions. For investors and entrepreneurs, the Northeast offers emerging opportunities in both procurement networks and value-added product segments.
