India's Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme has crossed a major milestone, with more than 2 lakh micro food processing enterprises receiving credit-linked subsidies since the scheme's launch in 2020, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan announced.
The supported enterprises have collectively mobilised over ₹20,300 crore in project investments, while the government has disbursed around ₹6,000 crore in subsidies, helping generate nearly 11 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities across the country.
The scheme, which has been extended until September 2026, offers a 35% credit-linked subsidy of the eligible project cost, capped at ₹10 lakh for individual micro food processing enterprises, and the Ministry is now considering the launch of PMFME 2.0 with suitable modifications to attract greater investment and accelerate growth in India's food processing sector.
The announcement underscores the government's continued focus on formalising micro enterprises, improving value addition, enhancing rural entrepreneurship and strengthening the country's food processing ecosystem. (Business Standard)
