Mysuru Milk Union Limited (MyMUL) has achieved a record-breaking milk procurement performance during the peak summer season, defying the usual trend of declining milk production caused by heat stress and fodder shortages.
According to reports, MyMUL’s daily milk collection has crossed 10 lakh litres for the first time during summer, marking a significant milestone for Karnataka’s dairy sector and highlighting improved resilience in the cooperative dairy network.
The achievement comes despite intense summer temperatures across Mysuru and nearby districts, where temperatures have crossed 35°C in recent weeks.
Officials attributed the strong milk inflow to better cattle healthcare, effective fodder distribution, disease-control measures, and continued government support for dairy farmers.
MyMUL has also benefited from stable procurement systems and incentive programs that have encouraged farmers to maintain milk production levels despite rising feed and maintenance costs.
Earlier reports showed Mysuru’s milk procurement had already risen steadily from 6.9 lakh litres in 2022–23 to around 9.3 lakh litres in 2025–26 before the latest summer surge.
The Karnataka dairy sector has been witnessing mixed trends this year, with some regions facing production pressure due to fodder shortages and heat stress.
Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) had earlier reported a decline in statewide milk procurement to around 95 lakh litres per day during the onset of summer before recovery measures helped stabilize collection levels.
Mysuru’s latest performance is therefore being viewed as a notable exception and an indicator of stronger farm-level management and cooperative support systems.
Industry observers noted that sustaining milk production during extreme weather conditions is becoming increasingly important as climate variability affects dairy productivity across India.
Stronger veterinary support, improved feed management, digitized procurement systems, and farmer incentives are emerging as critical tools for maintaining stable milk supply and farmer incomes during adverse seasons.
Mysuru’s summer procurement record is expected to further strengthen Karnataka’s position as one of India’s key dairy-producing states while reinforcing the role of cooperative dairy models in ensuring supply-chain resilience.
