MP Targets Milk Production Growth Through 208 Villages

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has reviewed the Mukhyamantri Vrindavan Gram Yojana, calling for coordinated efforts across government departments to strengthen dairy farming, increase milk production, protect cattle and improve livestock farmers’ incomes as the state works towards becoming India’s “Milk Capital”. According to a report published by Indian Masterminds on October 16, 2026, the scheme is being implemented across all 208 rural Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, with the objective of developing model villages that can support cattle rearing, dairy production and rural economic growth.

During the review meeting at the state secretariat, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of animal husbandry in increasing farmers’ incomes and directed the concerned departments to coordinate their activities for effective implementation. Officials reported that milk committees have been established in 129 villages, while dairy union activities are operational in 70 of these villages, creating village-level institutional support for milk collection and dairy-related operations. The state government is also working to bring all Vrindavan villages under the Ksheer Sagar Yojana, implemented by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department.

The programme covers cattle breed improvement, animal nutrition and veterinary treatment, with the aim of improving animal health, productivity and dairy farming practices. Officials also reviewed the functioning and development of gaushalas operating in Vrindavan villages. The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat, Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma and Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal.

The initiative is intended to strengthen the dairy value chain at the village level by encouraging livestock rearing, improving cattle care, supporting milk collection systems and expanding cooperation among participating villages. The government believes that coordinated implementation of the Vrindavan Gram and Ksheer Sagar schemes can contribute to higher milk production, stronger rural livelihoods and the development of a replicable village-level dairy model. However, the report did not specify a milk production target, a budget allocation or a completion timeline for the scheme.
