MP Plans ‘Vrindavan Villages’ to Boost Dairy

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is driving a dairy-led rural growth strategy by planning to establish ‘Vrindavan Villages’ in every development block across the state, aiming to transform villages into self-reliant dairy and livestock hubs. (DNP INDIA)
The initiative, under a broader roadmap to position Madhya Pradesh as a leading dairy state, focuses on integrating traditional cattle rearing with modern infrastructure, including gaushalas (cow shelters), biogas units, and solar energy systems at the village level.
Each selected village will act as a model unit for cow-centric rural development, promoting dairy production, organic farming, water conservation, and renewable energy adoption, while also encouraging localised dairy processing and value addition.
The government has also outlined plans to expand dairy cooperatives, provide milk bonuses, and strengthen farmer participation, with the larger goal of boosting farmer incomes and generating rural employment through dairy-centric economic activity.
Madhya Pradesh currently contributes around 9% to India’s total milk production, and the state is targeting a significant increase to 20–25% over the next five years, highlighting the scale of ambition behind the initiative.
The ‘Vrindavan Village’ model is positioned as a replicable template for sustainable rural development, combining dairy expansion with clean energy and ecological practices, and is expected to play a key role in strengthening the state’s rural economy and dairy ecosystem.
