The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants that will scientifically process cattle dung from dairies and gaushalas across the national capital, marking a major step towards sustainable dairy waste management and Yamuna rejuvenation.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other senior officials.
Under the NDDB model, cattle dung collected from dairy colonies and gaushalas will be transported to dedicated CBG and organic manure plants, where it will be converted into compressed biogas (CBG) and organic fertiliser instead of being dumped into drains. The initiative aims to prevent untreated dairy waste from polluting the Yamuna River, improve sanitation around dairy clusters, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, generate renewable energy and promote circular resource utilisation.
The MoU was formally exchanged between MCD Mayor Pravesh Wahi and NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh C. Shah. The collaboration is expected to strengthen Delhi's waste-to-energy ecosystem while serving as a scalable model for other Indian cities seeking sustainable solutions for dairy waste management and urban environmental protection.
