India’s food regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has issued notices to eight food business operators for allegedly using misleading brand names, trade names, and product claims that may violate provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The action is part of FSSAI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency in food labeling and prevent consumers from being misled by unverified health, nutrition, and product-related claims.
The companies served notices include Emami Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Troovy, The Healthy Factory, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, Plan B, and Neuherbs. FSSAI stated that several brand names and marketing claims could create misleading impressions regarding the nature, health benefits, or regulatory status of products. Among the products flagged were The Healthy Factory’s “Zero Maida Whole Wheat Bread” and “Zero Maida Pizza Base,” Neuherbs’ “True Vitamin” range, Troovy’s “Healthy” snack products, and Plan B’s “Plant-Based Vegan” branding, which allegedly lacked the required vegan endorsement approval in its FSSAI licence.
The regulator also questioned branding such as “Healthy & Tasty,” “Health Aid,” “Healthy Food for Healthy Life,” and “Vision to Serve Healthy,” stating that such claims may mislead consumers about the nutritional qualities or health benefits of the products. FSSAI directed the companies to comply strictly with food labeling and display regulations to ensure accurate communication and prevent consumer deception.
The move reflects increasing regulatory scrutiny of health, wellness, organic, vegan, and nutrition-related claims in India’s food sector. Industry observers note that the action could prompt food and beverage manufacturers to review packaging, branding, and marketing practices more closely as regulators place greater emphasis on evidence-based claims and transparent labeling. The development is particularly relevant for dairy and food companies marketing products on the basis of health, nutrition, or functional benefits, where compliance with labeling regulations is becoming increasingly important.
