Vet Varsity dairy training attracts youth, NRIs

A two-week Dairy Farming Training Programme organised by Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Ludhiana has generated strong interest among youth, foreign-returned individuals and retirees looking to start dairy enterprises. A total of 55 trainees, including one woman, participated in the programme, and notably three foreign-returned participants expressed strong motivation to establish dairy ventures in Punjab.
Vice-Chancellor J. P. S. Gill appreciated the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education for conducting the programme and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to empowering farmers through scientific knowledge, skill-based training and technological support. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, highlighted that dairying plays a crucial role in strengthening rural livelihoods, ensuring nutritional security and generating employment, adding that diversification and value addition of dairy products can significantly enhance farmers’ income.
Course Director Jaswinder Singh said the training combined theory with hands-on learning, covering scientific housing, balanced feeding, mastitis control, vaccination, clean milk production, reproductive management, biosecurity and dairy marketing. Participants also attended a session on financial assistance and institutional credit delivered by Bishap Pratap Singh of Bank of Baroda, while Surinder Singh, Deputy Director of the Dairy Development Department, shared insights on government schemes for dairy farmers.
The valedictory session was addressed by R. K. Sharma, Director of the Regional Research and Training Centre, Talwara, and the programme was coordinated by Ravdeep Singh, Parteek Singh Dhaliwal, and student coordinator Suchprem Kaur.
