Varun Beverages Acquires Crickley Dairy in SA
Varun Beverages Ltd (VBL) has announced the acquisition of 100% stake in South Africa-based Crickley Dairy through its subsidiary, marking a significant expansion into the value-added dairy segment in international markets. The deal, valued at ₹1,314.68 million (about ₹131.47 crore), will give VBL full ownership of the dairy business, subject to regulatory approvals including clearance from competition authorities.
The agreement was executed on March 17, 2026, and forms part of the company’s broader strategy to diversify beyond its core beverage portfolio into higher-value categories such as dairy and juice-based drinks. Crickley Dairy, which has roots linked to South Africa’s beverage ecosystem, strengthens VBL’s presence in the region where it already operates through its subsidiary The Beverage Company (Bevco).
The acquisition aligns with the company’s ongoing Africa expansion strategy, following earlier investments in the region, and is expected to enhance its product portfolio by adding dairy capabilities alongside its existing non-alcoholic beverage business.
Industry observers note that the move signals VBL’s intent to tap into premium and nutrition-linked segments, leveraging synergies between beverages and dairy to drive growth in overseas markets. The transaction is also seen as part of a broader trend among beverage companies to diversify into adjacent categories such as dairy and functional drinks to strengthen long-term revenue streams.
