NDDB Begins Supplying Indigenous curd Starter Cultures
In a significant stride towards “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has commenced the supply of indigenous starter cultures to major cooperative brands such as Amul, Banas Dairy, and Mother Dairy. This move supports domestic fermentation processes essential for products like dahi and mishti doi, reducing reliance on imported cultures.
The starting point of this initiative coincides with the inauguration of India’s first Ready-to-Use Culture (RUC) plant by the NDDB’s subsidiary IDMC—India’s inaugural facility dedicated to commercial production of fermented dairy cultures. These thermophilic, lyophilized cultures are crafted to meet rigorous technological standards and boost operational resilience across India’s dairy sector.
Industry Insight:
This locally developed culture supply reinforces both quality control and supply chain autonomy across India’s cooperative dairies, fortifying the sector's path to innovation, sustainability, and reduced import dependence.
