The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has busted a major milk adulteration racket operating from the Mahape MIDC area in Navi Mumbai, seizing and destroying 4,710 litres of adulterated and suspect milk valued at ₹1,85,780. The action followed an FDA raid on M/s P.K. Dairy on August 19, 2026, based on confidential intelligence, where officials allegedly caught Shivendra Shyamlal Jaiswal diluting milk inside a tanker with a mixture of skimmed milk powder (SMP) and chilled water, allegedly in collusion with dairy owner Pradeep Kamlesh Yadav.
According to the Thane district administration, 1 kg of SMP was mixed with 8–10 litres of chilled water using a plunger and the mixture was used to adulterate milk that was subsequently supplied as pure cow or buffalo milk to dairies across Thane, Airoli, Kopri, Digha and Ghansoli. Authorities immediately shut the dairy for operating without a valid food safety licence. In addition to the milk, FDA teams seized 129.5 kg of paneer, 473 kg of skimmed milk powder and 88.4 kg of cream from multiple raided establishments.
An FIR was registered at Turbhe police station on August 22 against 15 individuals and entities, including the owners of two dairies and recipient vendor outlets. Authorities have also initiated the process to cancel the food licences of all establishments implicated in the racket. The crackdown underscores the importance of milk authenticity, laboratory testing, licensing and traceability across the dairy supply chain, particularly when adulterated products are marketed as pure milk.
