MSME Funds Vet Varsity to Boost Dairy Entrepreneurship in Punjab
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Department of Livestock Production Management has secured ₹24.8 lakh in funding from India’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to support a specialised dairy entrepreneurship and management development programme. The initiative aims to equip both new and established dairy farmers with skills in scientific dairy farming, value addition and marketing, strengthening Punjab’s dairy ecosystem and expanding opportunities for innovation and farm-level enterprise.
The project, led by MSME support, will deliver hands-on training in advanced dairy production techniques and business management, aimed at improving sustainability and profitability for smallholders and aspiring dairy entrepreneurs. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill underscored the initiative’s role in fostering balanced regional economic growth through innovation, while Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Research, highlighted its potential to usher in a new era of precision and technology-driven dairy farming.
University faculty also emphasised the programme’s focus on entrepreneurial creativity and inclusive participation, particularly for women, youth and marginalised farmers, enabling them to adopt modern dairy practices and explore market linkages both locally and globally. This marks a unique intersection between government support and agricultural education aimed at empowering dairy value-chain actors in one of India’s key milk producing states.
