Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under the leadership of newly appointed Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, has intensified its "Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra" campaign, taking strict action against several well-known food establishments over hygiene and food safety violations.
During a two-day statewide drive, FDA officials conducted 24 targeted raids across Maharashtra, focusing on dairy establishments, hotels, restaurants and sweets manufacturers in Mumbai and Palghar. The inspections resulted in the seizure of adulterated dairy products, banned food items and unsafe materials worth nearly ₹1.90 crore. Among the most prominent actions, Mumbai's iconic Parsi Dairy Farm had its licence suspended after inspectors found serious hygiene lapses.
Other establishments facing action included Noor Mohammadi Hotel, Shalimar Hospitality, Rahmania Restaurant, Amravati Darbar Hotel, K. Rustom Ice Cream, BG Goyal & Company in Pune, four hotels in Vasai, and a Vasai bakery, with violations ranging from poor sanitation, pest infestation and expired ingredients to operating without valid licences and inadequate food safety practices.
The crackdown underscores Maharashtra FDA's stronger enforcement approach to improving food safety standards, preventing adulteration and ensuring greater consumer protection across the state's food industry. (NDTV Profit) (NDTV Profit)
