Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated Madhur Dairy’s new automated milk processing and packaging plant (Unit-2) at Dashela, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, marking a major boost for India’s cooperative dairy sector. Built across 15 acres at a cost of ₹128 crore, the facility currently processes 2.5 lakh litres of milk per day and is designed to double capacity to 5 lakh litres per day, strengthening farmer incomes and rural livelihoods.
Madhur Dairy, established in 1971 with a milk collection of just 6,000 litres and a turnover of ₹7,000, has grown into a major cooperative institution with an annual turnover of ₹628 crore. During the inauguration, Amit Shah highlighted the government’s “White Revolution 2.0” vision, which aims to triple India’s milk production over the next decade.
He also noted that Gujarat’s dairy cooperative network includes nearly 36 lakh women handling around 3 crore litres of milk daily, generating business worth approximately ₹200 crore every day. The minister emphasized that circular economy initiatives could increase dairy sector incomes by up to 20% in the coming years and highlighted Amul’s AI-powered digital assistant “Sarlaben” as a tool to support rural women and livestock farmers through technology.
The new plant is expected to strengthen India’s dairy value chain, enhance processing efficiency, and create additional opportunities for cooperative-led rural development. (pib.gov.in)
