Dr. Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul), has been unanimously elected as Chairman of the newly formed Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation (SPCDF), marking a major step in expanding India’s cooperative dairy movement beyond Gujarat.
Sangram Chaudhary, representing Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, was elected Vice Chairman during the office-bearers’ election held at AmulFed Dairy in Gandhinagar. The election results were formally declared by Gandhinagar Collector Ravindra D. Khatale, appointed as Returning Officer by the Cooperative Election Authority under the Ministry of Cooperation.
As per SPCDF bylaws, both office bearers will serve a five-year term effective May 5, 2026. SPCDF, launched by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on July 6, 2025, aims to strengthen the national dairy cooperative network and extend the successful “Amul model” across India.
The federation plans to connect over 20 lakh dairy farmers from more than 20,000 villages across 20 states into an organized cooperative structure, ensuring fair milk pricing, democratic participation and access to modern dairy services. The SPCDF board includes representatives from GCMMF, its 10 member unions and cooperative milk societies from Assam, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
Industry observers believe the move could significantly accelerate the government’s “White Revolution 2.0” initiative focused on farmer empowerment, value addition and rural prosperity through cooperatives. (BW People)
