India is poised to dramatically reshape the global dairy landscape, with Jayen Mehta stating that the country could handle one-third of the world’s milk production within the next decade, driven by scale, cooperative strength, and policy push.
The projection signals a significant jump from India’s current ~25% share of global milk output, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest milk producer.
According to Amul leadership, this growth will be powered by the expansion of cooperative networks, including initiatives like White Revolution 2.0, aimed at increasing milk procurement, farmer participation, and infrastructure capacity across the country.

The vision also emphasizes value addition and global market expansion, positioning India not just as a volume leader but as a key supplier of processed and branded dairy products worldwide.
With dairy already the country’s largest agricultural commodity, the focus is shifting toward exports, efficiency, and higher-margin segments.
Industry experts highlight that the cooperative model—backed by millions of farmers—remains central to this ambition, enabling inclusive growth while strengthening rural incomes.
If executed effectively, India’s push toward becoming the “dairy to the world” could significantly alter global supply dynamics and trade flows in the coming decade.
