HC Adjourns Plea; Vipul Chaudhary Remains Ineligible
The Gujarat High Court has adjourned the plea of Vipul Chaudhary, keeping him ineligible to contest the board elections of Dudhsagar Dairy (Mehsana) for the time being. Chaudhary, a former minister and ex-chairman, was convicted in July 2023 and handed a seven-year sentence for alleged financial mis-conduct tied to liquid feed supply to drought-hit Maharashtra in 2013.
The court’s decision means that Chaudhary remains barred from the upcoming director elections, scheduled with nominations closing Nov 24 and scrutiny to follow. For Mehsana’s dairy cooperative system — a crucial node in Gujarat’s milk procurement network — the verdict underscores the need for governance transparency and credible leadership.
In the broader Indian dairy sector, this case serves as a reminder: as cooperatives scale up and navigate domestic flushes and global pressures, institutional integrity is as important as production volume. Leadership matters — not just for operational efficiency, but for maintaining farmer trust and the cooperative model’s resilience in times of market stress.
