Gowardhan Ghee Brand Fined Rs 6.14 Lakh Over Quality Lapse
Parag Milk Foods Ltd. — the maker of well-known dairy brands such as Gowardhan and Go — has been fined a total of ₹ 6.14 lakh by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for alleged quality standard violations. One regional FSSAI office (Udaipur) imposed ₹1.14 lakh under Section 51 of the FSS Act, and another (Lunawada) levied ₹5 lakh after a retail sample of Gowardhan ghee was found fit for consumption but below prescribed quality standards.
The company’s filing to the stock exchanges states that the amount is limited to the fine and does not “materially affect operations.” Nonetheless, it highlights the regulator’s increasing focus on packaged-dairy quality, labeling claims and monitoring at retail windows.
Industry Insight:
This case underscores the growing regulatory vigilance around quality and compliance in the dairy sector. With FSSAI stepping up action on food labeling, purity claims and product standards, dairy brands need to reinforce their quality-assurance systems, traceability protocols and packaging integrity. For the wider dairy equipment & processing ecosystem, it serves as a reminder that beyond processing capacity and yield, lab-testing, hygiene controls, instrumentation, sampling and retrospective audits are now integral costs of doing business.
