Minister of State for Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, informed the Rajya Sabha that the government has set an ambitious target to increase milk procurement under White Revolution 2.0. He said that the government has set the target to increase the milk production from 660 lakh kilo grams per day to one thousand and seven lakh kilo grams per day under the White Revolution 2.0.
The initiative aims to significantly boost dairy cooperative coverage, generate employment, and promote women’s empowerment across the country. Replying during Question Hour, Mr. Mohol stated that White Revolution 2.0 seeks to increase milk procurement by dairy cooperatives by 50 percent from the present level over the next five years. He added that by the end of 2028-29, milk procurement by dairy cooperatives is projected to reach 1,007 lakh kilograms per day.
To strengthen market access, enhance income opportunities, and improve nutritional availability, he said the government has proposed setting up 75,000 new multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies across the country. Mr. Mohol also emphasized that the initiative will focus on bringing more women dairy farmers into the organized dairy cooperative sector, thereby advancing women’s empowerment and inclusive growth in the dairy industry.
