Assam Governor Launches Two-Day Conclave for Dairy & Coop Growth
In Guwahati, the Jagdish Mukhi-led two-day “Conclave on Development of Dairy, Animal Husbandry & Cooperatives” was inaugurated to strengthen the northeastern dairy ecosystem. The event brings together policymakers, cooperative leaders and private-sector partners to address livestock productivity, feed-fodder shortages, value-addition and cooperative branding across the region.
The governor stressed the need to modernise dairy processing infrastructure, improve cold-chain logistics and link small dairy farmers with large cooperatives to harness economies of scale. With the Northeastern Region holding nearly 10 million cattle and buffalo units, improving productivity and cooperative link-ups is central to driving inclusive dairy growth in the area.
Industry Insight:
This initiative highlights how states in India’s periphery — such as the Northeast — are focusing hard on dairy institutionalisation, value-addition and cooperative reform, rather than just raw milk volume. For equipment suppliers, feed-processors and technology providers, this means fresh opportunity zones beyond the “traditional” dairy belts — especially in terrain where chilling, modular processing, testing and traceability infrastructure remain weak. Upgrading such systems can open doors for new investment and supply-chain partnerships.
