Amul milk in US costs up to ₹150/litre

Amul milk, recently launched in the United States through partnerships with local cooperatives and retail chains, is being sold at significantly higher prices compared to India, highlighting stark global pricing differences. In the US market, a 1-gallon (3.78 litres) pack of Amul milk is priced between $5.39 and $7.99, translating to roughly ₹120–₹150 per litre, depending on the retailer and location.
In contrast, in India, Amul milk prices typically range around ₹56–₹68 per litre for variants like Amul Taaza and Amul Gold, even after recent price hikes. This means milk sold under the same brand can cost nearly 2–3 times higher in the US than in India.
The price difference is driven by multiple factors including higher logistics, cold chain, retail margins, and local sourcing costs in the US, as well as Amul’s positioning as a premium ethnic and specialty product catering to the Indian diaspora and niche consumers. Additionally, the company has partnered with US-based dairy cooperatives to produce and distribute milk locally, further influencing pricing structures. (The Times of India)
Despite the higher pricing, Amul’s entry into the US market marks a strategic global expansion, leveraging brand recognition and demand for high-fat milk variants, particularly among Indian-origin consumers, while competing in a mature and highly competitive dairy market.
