1.5 Lakh Kg Expired Amul Products Destroyed in Jaipur

In a major food safety crackdown, authorities in Jaipur destroyed around 1.5 lakh kilograms of expired Amul-branded packaged food products after uncovering an alleged scheme to erase expiry dates and resell the items in the market. The action followed a complaint lodged through the Rajasthan government’s 181 public grievance helpline, prompting a raid by officials from the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Jaipur-II, at a warehouse in the Kho Nagorian area operated by M/s Athlete Distributor.
During the inspection, officials discovered about 12,000 cartons of expired products, including noodles, ketchup, mayonnaise and energy drinks, while in around 3,000 cartons the expiry dates had allegedly been chemically erased. Investigators recovered thinner, acetone and other chemicals believed to have been used to remove the printed dates, along with 4,500 new Amul-branded cartons that were allegedly meant for repackaging the goods with fresh expiry labels before resale.
The products were manufactured by the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union, Gujarat, and supplied through Advansys India Pvt. Ltd. Officials said the distributor had been purchasing near-expiry goods at heavily discounted prices and was planning to alter the dates and sell them again in the market.
The warehouse was also found operating without a valid food licence, and authorities have sealed the premises, seized machinery and packaging materials, and initiated action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Due to the large volume, the disposal process took four days, with the expired goods transported in 27 truckloads to a landfill and destroyed under official supervision at the distributor’s expense.
