The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has signed a licensing agreement with Navshali Innovations Private Limited for the transfer and commercialization of an indigenous Milk Mastitis Detection System developed by the CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Pilani. The agreement was formally exchanged in Pilani, Rajasthan, marking an important step toward accelerating the adoption of advanced animal health technologies in India’s dairy sector. The initiative aims to strengthen the commercialization of homegrown scientific innovations while improving dairy farm productivity and milk quality.
Mastitis remains one of the most significant diseases affecting dairy cattle globally, causing reduced milk yield, lower milk quality, increased treatment costs, and economic losses for dairy farmers. The Milk Mastitis Detection System has been designed to enable rapid and early detection of mastitis infections, allowing farmers and veterinarians to take timely corrective action before the disease affects productivity. According to the developers, the technology offers accurate on-site diagnosis, improved usability in field conditions, and enhanced support for animal health management.
Under the agreement, Navshali Innovations, based in Karnal, Haryana, will be responsible for manufacturing, commercializing, and distributing the technology across the dairy sector. The company is expected to work with dairy farmers, cooperatives, and industry stakeholders to expand access to the system and promote wider adoption. The technology is anticipated to improve milk safety standards, enhance cattle welfare, and reduce economic losses associated with undetected mastitis infections.
Industry experts note that the agreement reflects India's growing emphasis on converting publicly funded research into commercially viable solutions for agriculture and livestock sectors. By facilitating the transfer of innovative technologies from research laboratories to industry, the initiative supports the broader goals of strengthening dairy productivity, improving farm profitability, and promoting indigenous agri-tech development under the country's self-reliance agenda.
