YSRCP Slams Indapur Dairy Over TTD Ghee Supply

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused Indapur Dairy of supplying sub-standard ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for use in the preparation of sacred prasadam, alleging quality lapses that contravene devotees’ expectations of purity in offerings. The criticism was voiced by party leaders in Andhra Pradesh, who claimed that the ghee supplied while the YSRCP was in power at the state level was inferior and potentially compromised the sanctity of the temple’s traditional rituals. The controversy adds to lingering debates over advisory quality and procurement oversight in high-profile dairy supplies, especially in institutional contexts where trust, tradition and consumer safety intersect. While the YSRCP’s remarks focus on political accountability during its previous governance period, they also amplify broader concerns about standards, certification and traceability in large-volume dairy product contracts. Past technical probes into ghee quality used in prasadam have highlighted complexities in detecting adulterants versus quality variances, underscoring the sensitivity of such supply chains.

The TTD, one of the world’s most visited pilgrimage institutions, serves prasadam to millions of devotees annually, with ghee — an integral ingredient in its laddus and offerings — expected to meet stringent quality and purity benchmarks. Allegations of sub-par supplies, whether political or technical, reinforce the need for robust quality assurance protocols, transparent procurement procedures and independent testing to maintain trust among stakeholders.

The episode also feeds into ongoing discussions in India’s dairy sector about the importance of cold chain maintenance, hygienic processing and third-party certification, especially in products destined for institutional kitchens, religious offerings, and mass consumption. As debates unfold, experts emphasise the need for scientifically sound testing, clear regulatory standards and enforcement to ensure that public confidence in dairy quality remains intact.
