Sudha Dairy Raises Milk Prices Ahead of Holi
Sudha Dairy has increased its retail milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre ahead of the Holi festival, citing higher procurement and production costs as key factors behind the revision. The price adjustment applies across several milk variants, impacting everyday household supplies in Jamshedpur and surrounding areas.
According to the announcement, the price of standardised toned milk has been increased by ₹1.50–₹2 per litre, while full-cream milk may see similar or slightly higher adjustments depending on packaging and delivery mode. Sudha authorities attributed the hike primarily to sustained increases in raw milk procurement costs, fodder and feed inflation, labour costs and packaging expenses — developments that have squeezed margins for dairy cooperatives and private processors alike.
The adjustment comes just ahead of Holi, a period of higher milk consumption due to traditional sweets and beverages, prompting processors to align prices with expected seasonal demand without compromising on supply continuity. Local retailers say customers have already started noticing the revised price tags in grocery stores and doorstep delivery packs.
Consumers and market watchers note that such festive-season price revisions have become a pattern in several dairy centres, where calendar events and competing supply chains influence short-term pricing alongside structural cost drivers. Analysts also point out that price increases in Jharkhand’s urban markets mirror broader trends across eastern India, where rising input costs and milk procurement challenges are prompting processors to recalibrate retail prices.
