A high-level delegation from the Government of Sikkim visited Banas Dairy during its official engagements in Gujarat.

The delegation was led by Arun Kumar Upreti, Minister for Cooperation and Rural Development Department (RDD), along with PRCS-cum-Secretary Mrs. Jabi Thapa.

Established in 1969, Banas Dairy, formally known as Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, is Asia’s largest cooperative dairy and a key member of Amul. With an annual turnover exceeding Rs 21,200 crore in FY 2024–25, it processes over 10 million litres of milk daily and supports more than 1.8 lakh farmer members.

The delegation reviewed its processing infrastructure, cooperative framework, and value-chain systems.

The Minister noted that the Banas model offers valuable lessons for strengthening farmer participation and market linkages in Sikkim, while Mrs. Thapa highlighted the importance of institutional efficiency and capacity building in cooperative development.
