Rajasthan reports strong rise in dairy, animal-husbandry output
The Rajasthan government says its dairy and animal-husbandry sector has shown significant growth over the past two years, with milk production, processing capacity and cooperative-sector performance all improving.
Economic turnaround & increased turnover
State data show that annual turnover from milk production and cattle-feed in Rajasthan rose from ₹ 8,000 crore to ₹ 10,000 crore, signalling a healthy 25% expansion in sectoral business.
The number of cooperative milk unions running profitably increased to 24, up from just 9 in 2023 — showing a broad-based financial recovery in the cooperative dairy structure.
Expanded processing capacity
The state’s milk-processing capacity has risen from 48 lakh litres/day to 54 lakh litres/day, with official targets aiming at 70 lakh litres/day within the next two years.
To support long-term infrastructure expansion, state authorities have established a ₹ 1,000 crore corpus fund under the Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation (RCDF), marking the largest recent financial commitment to dairy infrastructure in the state.
What’s driving growth
Officials credit the turnaround to strengthened cooperative networks, better procurement mechanisms, upgraded processing infrastructure, and renewed policy focus on animal husbandry and rural livelihoods.
The state’s dairy strategy also includes breed improvement efforts — including distribution of high-genetics semen doses to improve cow productivity — aiming to boost milk yield and long-term sustainability of dairy farming.
Moreover, the government’s push to formalise dairy by creating new cooperatives, expanding milk-collection systems, improving cattle-feed supply and encouraging private and cooperative investment seems to be bearing fruit.
