Rajasthan Launches Dairy & Skills Drive to Boost Youth Self-Employment

Rajasthan Launches Dairy & Skills Drive to Boost Youth Self-Employment

The Rajasthan government has rolled out a comprehensive initiative to promote self-employment among rural youth by linking skill development, access to credit and dairy value-chain opportunities. Under the programme, young aspirants are being trained not only in dairy farming and milk handling but also in value-added food skills such as sweets, bakery and allied processing — with the aim of fostering sustainable rural livelihoods and enterprise creation. Officials outlined that the effort includes credit facilitation, with soft loans available to trained youth to help establish mini-dairy units, sweet shops, dairy product processing micro-enterprises and allied agri-businesses. The goal is to move beyond unskilled labour to entrepreneurial pathways that leverage local agricultural and animal husbandry resources, particularly milk production and dairy by-products.

Training modules are designed to cover the end-to-end dairy value chain — from cattle care and milk procurement quality standards to value-addition in sweets, khoa, paneer and other niche products that have strong local and regional demand. Participants also receive guidance on business management, marketing and supply chain linkages to make these enterprises commercially viable.

This initiative reflects a growing focus among state governments on job creation through rural enterprise development, with dairy and dairy-derived food services seen as high-potential sectors given India’s vast milk production base and rising demand for authentic, traditional dairy products. By fostering skills and facilitating affordable credit, Rajasthan aims to empower youth to transform milk production into profitable self-employment ventures.
