Mizoram and NDDB Partner to Strengthen Dairy Sector
In a significant step to boost India’s northeastern dairy economy, the Mizoram Milk Producers Cooperative Union Ltd (MULCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) aimed at strengthening milk production, processing capacity and overall dairy infrastructure in Mizoram. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma and Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata, underscoring strong government support for rural dairy growth.
Under the pact, NDDB will prepare a Comprehensive Dairy Development Plan for the state and provide technical support and guidance across required areas, while MULCO will be responsible for implementing interventions on the ground. The collaboration is aligned with the Ministry of Cooperation’s flagship White Revolution 2.0 initiative, which seeks to modernise dairy value chains and empower producer cooperatives nationwide.
The MoU aims to reverse Mizoram’s traditionally low milk output — the state recorded the lowest daily milk production in the Northeast at 64,400 kg per day during 2024–25 — by introducing structured, technology-driven practices and improved dairy management systems. Officials say the partnership will help increase productivity, enhance dairy processing capabilities and improve income opportunities for livestock farmers, tapping into Mizoram’s favourable land resources and longstanding animal husbandry practices.
State leaders also emphasised the need for a dedicated monitoring unit to track progress and ensure effective implementation of the development plan — a move expected to bring measurable advances for the local dairy sector and contribute to broader rural livelihoods.
