Illegal Oxytocin Seized in Telangana Dairy Probe

By DairyNews7x7•Published on January 27, 2026

Telangana’s Drugs Control Administration (DCA), acting with the Adilabad Police, has seized 109 unlabelled 200 ml bottles purported to be oxytocin injections from an individual in Adilabad district — suspected to be illegally stocked for misuse in dairy cattle to artificially boost milk let-down. The operation, conducted on January 22, 2026, uncovered the unlabelled injections during a targeted raid and has triggered a formal investigation with legal action pending against those involved.

Officials highlighted that the unauthorised use of oxytocin in milch animals can harm animal health and welfare, noting that such misuse to induce milk release and increase production is a growing concern in livestock handling. Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, illegal stocking and sale of oxytocin attract stringent penalties including potential imprisonment of up to five years.

The DCA emphasised its commitment to curbing illegal drug activities that threaten both public and animal health, and urged the public to report suspicious drug trade or manufacturing activity in their areas to enforcement agencies.
