Flavoured Milk Becomes a Daily Habit in India’s Changing Dairy Market

By DairyNews7x7•Published on December 31, 2025

India’s dairy consumption patterns are undergoing a fundamental transformation, with flavoured milk emerging as a routine choice rather than an occasional treat as part of evolving consumer lifestyles. Once seen mainly as an indulgence or post-school drink, flavoured milk is increasingly integrated into everyday diets, reflecting broader shifts in taste preferences, nutrition awareness and convenience-driven consumption.

According to the Godrej Jersey India Lactograph Findings for FY25–26, 58 % of consumers now report consuming flavoured milk regularly, signalling its transition into the mainstream rather than a niche, occasional beverage. This trend marks a significant change from traditional patterns centred on plain milk, indicating that modern Indian households are embracing diverse dairy formats across daily consumption moments.

The shift is rooted in a blend of cultural heritage and contemporary lifestyles. Urban and semi-urban consumers, in particular, are seeking dairy products that align with both taste and wellness — from traditional badam or saffron varieties to protein enriched and functional formulations. Rising health awareness, higher disposable incomes and changing dietary habits are key drivers of this trend, as consumers increasingly view dairy as an everyday source of nutrition, strength and convenience.

This broader evolution has also expanded the dairy shelf beyond plain milk. Products like curd, yoghurt and paneer are now staples in daily meals, while flavoured milk fits into on-the-go lifestyles, school routines and snack occasions. The narrative today is not whether Indians consume milk, but how dairy in its multiple forms continues to adapt and integrate into everyday life.
