Ferrero and Arla Foods are working together to support lower-emission dairy farming through Arla’s FarmAhead™ Customer Partnership Program, with a focus on reducing Scope 3 emissions associated with Ferrero’s dairy ingredient supply chain. The partnership, which began in January 2025, combines farmer incentives, primary farm-level carbon-footprint data and innovation to encourage continuous improvements in dairy production.
Under the programme, Ferrero contributes to initiatives that provide financial incentives for farmers, improve access to primary farm-level carbon-footprint data, pilot and scale innovative farming solutions, and strengthen the connection between sourcing decisions and activities on farms. Ferrero says farm-level action is particularly important because a significant share of dairy-related greenhouse-gas emissions occurs at the farm level.
A key target is for Ferrero to source at least 30% of the volume of its dairy ingredients through dedicated farmer-support mechanisms by the end of 2027. The company says this approach is intended to accelerate the adoption of farming practices that reduce impacts on climate and nature while improving supply-chain resilience and transparency.
For Arla, the collaboration demonstrates how farmer-focused programmes can combine incentives, data and innovation to scale climate action across dairy farms. Ferrero describes the partnership as one of the first of its kind in the dairy ingredients sector and plans to expand farmer-centric sourcing approaches with other dairy suppliers as well.
