Cargill to Invest Rs 300 Cr in Second Dairy Feed Plant

Global agribusiness major Cargill is expanding its presence in India’s livestock nutrition sector with the establishment of a second dairy feed manufacturing facility in Punjab, underscoring its long-term commitment to the country’s rapidly growing dairy industry.
The new plant — located near Wazirabad in Fatehgarh Sahib district — is being set up with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore and will have an annual production capacity of about 4 lakh tonnes of dairy feed. Once operational, it will serve as Cargill’s largest dairy feed unit in South Asia, complementing its existing dairy feed facility in Bathinda, Punjab which is currently operating at full capacity.
According to Ravinder Balain, Country President of Cargill India, the move is aimed at enhancing feed supply reliability and farm profitability for dairy farmers, particularly in key milk-producing regions of northern India. The company also plans to introduce digital tools and farm-management techniques to help improve cattle health and milk productivity through science-based nutrition.
The facility — spread over roughly 15 acres — is expected to support the creation of about 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, strengthening the local economy and supply chain infrastructure around dairy production hubs. Products from the plant are expected to be marketed under internationally recognised Cargill animal nutrition brands and will cater to a broad range of customers including dairy farmers, producers and feed mills.
Industry analysts note that India’s animal nutrition market — estimated at around 20 million tonnes and projected to grow 6–8 % annually — presents strong growth opportunities as rising incomes drive higher dairy consumption and demand for quality feed solutions increases. Cargill’s expansion reflects rising investor confidence in India’s dairy sector and the strategic importance of Punjab as a production and procurement hub.
