4,224 Dairy Units Distributed Under IDDP in Kashmir
The Animal Husbandry Department in Jammu and Kashmir has distributed 4,224 dairy units across the Valley over the last three years under the Integrated Dairy Development Programme (IDDP). The year 2024–25 saw the highest allocation with 2,105 units, while 2025 recorded the lowest at 419 units. Among districts, Kupwara led with 122 units, whereas Baramulla received only 17. Pulwama and Shopian reported no new units under the scheme this year. In 2024–25, Bandipora topped with 453 units, followed by Budgam (286) and Baramulla (270), while Srinagar received the least with 61. During 2023–24, 1,700 units were established, with Bandipora (388), Baramulla (336), and Budgam (253) leading again. The department confirmed that beneficiaries receive subsidies post-establishment, ensuring economic empowerment and livelihood diversification.
Industry Insight: The steady expansion under IDDP highlights the government’s effort to strengthen rural dairy entrepreneurship and milk self-sufficiency in Kashmir. However, disparities among districts suggest a need for balanced outreach and capacity-building support in underperforming regions to ensure equitable growth across the Valley.
