The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) will independently determine the country's farmgate milk price, marking a significant step toward greater transparency and fair returns for dairy farmers. The announcement was made by Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited (FCDCL) Chief Executive Officer Vimal Chand following calls from dairy farmers to increase the raw milk price from the current range of FJ$1.12 per litre to between FJ$1.50 and FJ$1.80 per litre.
The farmgate milk price was recently increased by 5%, effective July 1, 2026, raising the payment to farmers from FJ$1.06 to FJ$1.12 per litre. While FCDCL is continuing discussions with Fiji Dairy Limited (FDL) on a further price increase, the company wants the FCCC to determine future pricing to ensure an independent, transparent and equitable mechanism for producers.
In addition, Chand welcomed the Fijian Government's FJ$4 million allocation for dairy development, which will fund calf rearing, milk topper incentives, milk transportation from farms to chilling centres, pasture establishment, livestock feed and chemicals, fodder development, automated milk collection systems, dairy advisory offices and veterinary services. The initiative is expected to strengthen farmer incomes, improve productivity and support the long-term sustainability of Fiji's dairy sector through enhanced investment and transparent pricing.
