Shankar Bhai Chaudhary chairman Banas dairy Palanpur announced 16.66% hike in payment to farmers amounting Rs 1144 crores . He was addressing the 52nd Annual general meeting of Banas milk producers Union. This difference will be distributed amongst existing 3.5 lakh milk producers of the Union. The milk collection at Banas dairy grew from 29.96 lakh litres per day to a level of 59.67 lakh litres per day currently. Interestingly the milk transportaion cost has come down from 36 paisa per liter to 33 paisa per liter despite the surge in diesel prices. In last five years the assets of Banas dairy has increased from 879 crore to Rs 2792 crores. The turnover has also increased from Rs 5441 to Rs 12170 Crores during the same period. The cattle feed production levels have also increased to 1800 MT from 1000 MT five years back. Bans dairy’s capital has also surged from Rs 251 crores to Rs 649 crores today.
Banas Union has now identified potato farming and processing as a new area to support its member farmers in North Gujarat. Soon we may have a new category of frozen potato based products under Amul brand name as mentioned by R S Sodhi at the recently held AGM of GCMMF.
