Verka Records ₹551 Crore June Turnover

Milkfed Punjab, which markets dairy products under the Verka brand, recorded a turnover of ₹551 crore in June 2026, compared with ₹480 crore in the same month last year, registering 14.79% year-on-year growth. The ₹71 crore increase highlights the cooperative's growing focus on value-added dairy products alongside its traditional liquid milk business.

The strongest growth came from several value-added categories. UHT Cream sales increased 213%, while Table Butter grew 94%, Dairy Whitener 58%, Ghee 41%, Tetra Pack Lassi 30%, Ice Cream 22% and UHT Milk 20%.

Milk Procurement Also Expands

Milkfed Punjab increased milk procurement by nearly 2 lakh litres per day during June, representing approximately 11% growth over the previous year. The growth was cited as being above the national milk-production growth benchmark of 5–6%.

Higher procurement provides additional raw material for processing, while the rapid expansion of value-added categories gives the cooperative more avenues to convert milk into products with greater value realisation.

Value-Added Products Drive Dairy Growth

Verka's performance comes as India's organised dairy sector increasingly looks beyond conventional liquid milk. CRISIL expects organised dairy-sector revenue to grow 13–15% in the current fiscal year, supported by 8–10% volume growth, price increases and rising demand for value-added products.

CRISIL also expects protein-rich and probiotic dairy categories to grow at more than 20%, although they currently account for less than 5% of the market. At the same time, higher raw-milk procurement costs and weather-related supply pressures are expected to keep profitability under pressure.

For Milkfed Punjab, the June results suggest that increasing milk procurement is being accompanied by a broader product strategy. The rapid growth in cream, butter, ghee, dairy whitener and other processed categories indicates a shift towards extracting greater value from every litre of milk collected.

As competition intensifies across India's organised dairy market, the ability to combine strong farmer procurement networks with processing capacity, product innovation and market reach could become increasingly important for cooperative dairies.
