Uttar Pradesh’s dairy sector is emerging as a powerful engine of rural women empowerment, with the Yogi Adityanath government’s technology-driven dairy model helping more than 18,000 women in the Awadh region become “Lakhpati Didis.” The organised dairy network is now collecting over 4 lakh litres of milk daily, creating a major boost for the rural economy and women-led entrepreneurship.
The initiative has transformed traditional village dairy practices by connecting rural women directly to organised markets through digital platforms and mobile applications. From milk quality testing and sales tracking to direct payments, the entire system has become technology-enabled, significantly reducing dependence on middlemen. Women dairy producers are receiving payments directly into their bank accounts every ten days, increasing transparency and trust in the dairy ecosystem.
Since Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched large-scale dairy empowerment programmes, more than 1.25 lakh women in the Awadh region have been trained in modern dairy production, quality management and digital payment systems. The women-led Saamarthya Milk Producer Company is also playing a key role by supporting dairy operations, market linkages and rural business development.
Officials stated that over 1.25 lakh women members have joined the organised dairy network within the last three years, highlighting the rapid expansion of the state’s rural dairy infrastructure. Self-help groups and dairy committees are also helping generate local employment while strengthening village economies. The Uttar Pradesh government now plans to expand the technology-based dairy network further across villages to connect more women with organised dairy businesses and improve financial self-reliance.
