Two Indian dairy products—GirOrganic’s A2 Gir Cow Ghee and Amul’s Pure Ghee—have secured the No. 6 position on TasteAtlas’ list of the “Best and Iconic Butters Around the World,” placing Indian ghee alongside products from major dairy-producing countries including Denmark, England, Belgium, France and Ireland. TasteAtlas said its ranking considered factors such as exceptional quality, craftsmanship and premium credentials, along with a product’s history, global recognition and cultural significance. GirOrganic’s A2 Gir Cow Ghee was recognised for its traditional positioning and use of milk from Gir cows, while Amul Pure Ghee was highlighted for its distinctive aroma and granular texture, characteristics often associated with traditionally prepared homemade ghee. TasteAtlas distinguishes “Best” products based on quality, craftsmanship and premium credentials, while “Iconic” products are recognised for historical roots, global recognition and cultural significance. The global list included products from Australia, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, the United States and India. International entries included products from brands and dairies such as Pepe Saya, Western Star, L&L Plaquette, Carlsbourg, Aabybro Mejeri, Lurpak, Fen Farm Dairy, Country Life, Maison Bordier, Échiré, Saltrock Dairy, Kerrygold, Beppino Occelli, Prealpi, Lewis Road Creamery, Anchor Dairy, Rørosmeieriet, Tine, Airas Moniz, Cadí, Animal Farm Creamery and Land O’Lakes. The recognition places Indian ghee in a global premium-dairy conversation and highlights the potential of traditional Indian dairy products to compete on quality, heritage and cultural identity in international markets.
