TG Dairy Seeks Action Over ‘Vijaya’ Brand Misuse

The Telangana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited (TGDDCF) has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to immediately stop the unauthorised use of the “Vijaya” dairy brand in Telangana, alleging that substandard milk and dairy products are being sold in the state through private franchise networks.

Addressing a press conference, TGDDCF Chairman Gutha Amith Kumar Reddy said the federation has brought the issue to the attention of the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, the AP Chief Secretary and the Union government, seeking intervention. According to the federation, over 15,000 litres of low-quality milk packets bearing the Vijaya name are reportedly entering Telangana every day, particularly in the Greater Hyderabad region.

Many of these packets allegedly lack proper packaging details such as manufacturing dates, packaging information and consumer grievance numbers, creating confusion among consumers who assume they belong to the official Telangana Vijaya brand. TGDDCF officials said they receive several consumer complaints daily despite not producing these products. The federation also alleged that some private franchisees linked to AP dairy authorities are selling ghee, curd, paneer and milk using packaging that closely resembles Telangana’s Vijaya branding.

Samples of suspected ghee were sent for laboratory testing and reportedly showed vegetable oil residues, indicating adulteration. TGDDCF noted that after the 2014 bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, both state dairy federations became independent entities, with the Telangana federation operating the Vijaya brand within the state through over 1,600 village cooperatives and more than 5,000 milk collection centres, along with several dairies and chilling centres.

The federation stated that the franchise model used by AP dairy entities is causing market confusion, financial losses to local farmers and erosion of Telangana’s brand identity, while the dispute over Vijaya brand ownership is currently sub judice before the Telangana High Court.
