Tamil Nadu Targets 40 Lakh Litre Daily Milk Output

Tamil Nadu's Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, Mano Thangaraj, has called upon more farmers to collaborate with the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (Aavin) to boost daily milk production from the current 35 lakh litres to 40 lakh litres. This initiative aims to enhance the state's milk supply and strengthen the cooperative sector.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new 'Paneer Hut' outlet in RS Puram, Coimbatore, Thangaraj emphasized Aavin's consistent pricing model, which offers stability to farmers compared to the fluctuating rates of private players. He highlighted Aavin's reliability, noting that the cooperative continued milk supply even during disasters when private companies withdrew.

Addressing concerns about the higher price of Aavin's full cream milk, the minister explained that its nearly 6% fat content justifies the cost. He recommended the more affordable 'delight' variant, with 3–4% fat, for general consumption, citing health considerations.

This move is part of the state's broader strategy to strengthen the dairy sector, ensuring both farmer welfare and consumer satisfaction.
