Punjab Dairy Sector Strengthened by Vet Varsity–PDFA Pact
Punjab’s dairy sector, one of India’s most vibrant milk belts, is set for a new growth wave as the state’s leading veterinary university joined hands with the Progressive Dairy Farmers’ Association (PDFA). This collaboration comes at a crucial time when India is consolidating its position as the world’s largest milk producer.
Punjab accounts for a significant share of India’s organized milk pool, with high productivity levels compared to national averages. Yet, challenges such as rising input costs, herd health management, and global competitiveness continue to pressure farmers. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) and PDFA focuses on skill-building, disease prevention, and advanced dairy farming practices. Officials emphasized knowledge transfer, modern extension services, and support for entrepreneurial dairy models to strengthen the sector’s long-term viability.
