The Punjab Milkman Dairy Union Ekta has sought registration of an FIR against former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, alleging that a video shared by him spreads “false and misleading” information about milk adulteration, triggering consumer panic and damaging the dairy sector’s reputation.
According to the union’s complaint submitted to the SSP, Bathinda, the video—circulating on platforms like YouTube and WhatsApp—purportedly shows milk being prepared using urea and harmful chemicals, though no specific brand or company is named.
The union claims the unverified content lacks scientific basis and has led to widespread suspicion about milk safety, adversely affecting the livelihoods of those linked to the dairy industry. It has demanded action under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Food Safety and Standards Act and the IT Act, stating such content undermines consumer confidence and may disturb public peace. Bathinda police confirmed that the complaint has been forwarded to the Cyber Crime Police Station for further examination. (The Tribune)
