Mother Dairy has commissioned its first dedicated butter chiplet manufacturing line at its existing milk processing facility in Junagadh, Gujarat, as the dairy company expands its packaged butter portfolio and introduces a convenient single-serve format.
The new production line has an annual capacity of 550 tonnes and is located at the company’s Junagadh Dairy facility in the Gandhigram area of Junagadh district. The facility operates under Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Pvt. Ltd.
The new line will manufacture 10-gram butter chiplets, designed as single-serve portions for greater convenience. The format is aimed at applications where consumers need measured quantities of butter, while also supporting Mother Dairy’s expansion in the packaged butter segment.
With the commissioning of the facility, Mother Dairy now has a dedicated domestic manufacturing base for butter chiplets. The company plans to supply the products to markets across India from its Gujarat facility, giving the new format a pan-India distribution footprint.
The investment forms part of Mother Dairy’s broader product and market expansion strategy. The move also reflects the growing focus within the dairy industry on portion-controlled and convenience-oriented formats, particularly for foodservice, hospitality and household consumption.
Mother Dairy was commissioned in 1974 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The company was established as an initiative under Operation Flood and has since developed a broad portfolio spanning milk and dairy products as well as other food categories.
The Junagadh investment gives Mother Dairy an in-house production base for butter chiplets while positioning Gujarat as the manufacturing hub for supplying the product to markets across the country.
