₹23,095 Crore Market Cap Highlights Investor Appetite for Value-Added Dairy
Milky Mist Dairy Food Ltd. is commanding a valuation premium that significantly exceeds those of several established listed dairy companies, reflecting investor expectations for growth in branded and value-added dairy products.
As of November 3, 2026, Milky Mist's market capitalisation stood at ₹23,095 crore—nearly twice the combined ₹12,729 crore market value of Dodla Dairy, Heritage Foods and Parag Milk Foods.
The valuation gap highlights a structural shift in India's dairy industry, where companies focused on higher-value products such as paneer, cheese, Greek yoghurt and protein-rich dairy offerings are attracting greater investor attention.
Strong Financial Performance Supports Premium Valuation
Milky Mist reported robust financial growth in Q2 FY27:
- Revenue from operations: ₹1,089 crore, up 41.06% year-on-year.
- EBITDA: ₹165.2 crore, compared with ₹53.9 crore a year earlier.
- EBITDA margin: 15.2%, up from 14%.
- Net profit: ₹77.9 crore, nearly three times the previous year's ₹28.4 crore.
For the first half of FY27, revenue rose 42.5% to ₹2,062.9 crore, while EBITDA increased 62.9% to ₹310 crore.
The company's margin profile also compares favourably with several listed dairy peers. Heritage Foods reported an EBITDA margin of 5.6% in Q2 FY27, while Dodla Dairy's margin was approximately 5.4%.
Protein-Focused Dairy Products Drive the Growth Strategy
Milky Mist's expansion into protein-oriented products is emerging as a major component of its business strategy.
The company's protein-focused portfolio—including high-protein paneer, cheese, yoghurt, skyr and lactose-free milk—accounted for around 12% of revenue in FY27, compared with 7% a year earlier.
Management expects this contribution to potentially increase to 18–20% over the next two to three years.
The company has also introduced high-protein paneer cubes and high-protein lactose-free milk, targeting consumers seeking convenient protein-rich food options.
The strategy reflects growing interest in specialised dairy products that offer higher value realisation compared with conventional liquid milk.
Paneer, Yoghurt and Cheese Strengthen Product Mix
Milky Mist's growth is not limited to protein-led launches.
During Q2 FY27:
- Paneer revenue grew 44% year-on-year.
- Yoghurt revenue surged 168%.
- Cheese revenue increased 34%.
- Curd revenue rose 22%.
- Ice cream revenue expanded 43%.
Paneer remains the company's largest product category. The business currently produces around 100 tonnes daily against installed capacity of 150 tonnes.
Milky Mist is considering an additional paneer manufacturing facility with a capacity of 200 tonnes per day at Perundurai, potentially increasing total installed capacity to 350 tonnes.
The company is also expanding its Greek yoghurt and skyr production infrastructure, with installed capacity at its Perundurai facility increasing from 20 tonnes per day to 180 tonnes per day.
Digital Channels and Geographic Expansion
Online distribution is becoming increasingly important to Milky Mist's growth.
Online channels contributed 21% of revenue in the first half of FY27, compared with 11% a year earlier. High-protein products are among the company's faster-moving categories on quick-commerce platforms.
Milky Mist is also working to expand beyond its traditional South Indian market. It has acquired 50 acres in Baramati, Maharashtra, for a proposed manufacturing facility, with operations expected to begin in approximately three years.
South India contributed around 70% of the company's first-half FY27 revenue, highlighting the importance of geographic diversification.
Valuation Premium: Growth Opportunity or Execution Risk?
Milky Mist's premium valuation reflects its revenue growth, stronger operating margins and emphasis on value-added dairy products.
However, the valuation also creates higher expectations for sustained performance.
Investors will need to monitor:
- Continued revenue and earnings growth.
- Expansion of high-margin protein and value-added categories.
- Manufacturing capacity utilisation.
- Geographic diversification.
- Milk procurement cost volatility.
- Debt levels and cash-flow generation.
The company's ability to sustain growth while improving operational efficiency will be critical to supporting its valuation over the long term.
India's Dairy Industry Moves Up the Value Chain
The Milky Mist story illustrates a broader transformation in India's dairy industry.
Traditional dairy businesses have historically relied heavily on liquid milk procurement, processing and distribution. Increasingly, companies are seeking greater value from milk through branded paneer, cheese, yoghurt, whey and specialised protein products.
This shift can improve revenue realisation and margins, but it also requires investment in processing infrastructure, product innovation, cold-chain capabilities and distribution.
Industry takeaway: Milky Mist's valuation premium reflects investor confidence in value-added dairy and protein-led growth. Sustaining that premium will depend on converting product demand and capacity expansion into durable profitability and cash generation.
